Improved sustainability performance at Nordic Paper in Säffle
The Nordic Paper Säffle plant is one of the largest producers of natural greaseproof papers in the world. The paper is sold for use in food applications such as baking paper or baking cups. During last year, a restructuring work was carried out whereby the pulp production line at the plant was closed and the production capacity for speciality papers was increased by 10%.
- Last year’s restructuring was an important step in the long-term development of Nordic Paper and it explains much of the fantastic improvement in sustainability performance. But very important is also the everyday work we do to improve ourselves. Through continuous improvements, we strengthen our competitiveness and reinforce our position as a leading supplier of high quality greaseproof papers to our customers around the world, says Stefan Åbom, plant manager at Nordic Paper Säffle.
The improvement in sustainability performance is a competitive advantage as demand for solutions with low climate impact is growing. The achieved reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the Säffle plant is an important contribution to the Nordic Paper climate target for 2022 – to reduce emissions in scope 1 and 2 by 10% during the year. Fossil carbon dioxide emissions from the Säffle plant, scope 1, and from purchased energy, scope 2, amounted to about 1,500 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalents during the first quarter 2022.
